Lake Solitude Trail, Mountain hiking trail in Grand Teton National Park, Wyoming.
Lake Solitude Trail is a hiking route through Grand Teton National Park that winds through forests, alpine meadows, and rocky slopes. The destination is a mountain lake at roughly 9,000 feet elevation, surrounded by steep peaks and glacial valleys.
A patrol cabin built in 1935 stands in Cascade Canyon, constructed by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the park's early development. This building marks the initial efforts to open this wilderness area in the mid-20th century.
Jenny Lake takes its name from a Shoshone woman connected to the geological survey of 1872. Visitors can sense this connection at several points along the route today.
Hikers can shorten the route by taking a shuttle boat across Jenny Lake rather than walking around its southern shore. This saves energy and time for the steep climb to the lake at the end of the trail.
The trail passes through multiple environments, from berry patches that attract bears to glacial moraines beside the lake. These contrasting landscapes reveal how varied nature becomes at higher elevations.
