Gallatin County High School, high school in Montana, United States
Gallatin County High School is a school building in Bozeman, Montana, constructed in three phases from 1902 to 1937 and featuring Romanesque, Classical Revival, and Art Deco architectural styles. Located at 404 West Main Street, the structure is distinguished by a large rounded projection that recalls Streamline Moderne design and visibly represents the different eras of its expansion.
The school was established in 1898 and first occupied a ten-room building completed around 1902 on West Main Street, with expansions added in 1914 and again from 1936 to 1937. Architect Fred F. Willson was instrumental in designing the later additions, shaping the building's current appearance.
The building is easy to locate on West Main Street in central Bozeman and is visible from the street for viewing its exterior architecture. Visitors can observe the structure at no cost and appreciate the layered architectural styles without requiring special access or advance arrangements.
The building educated notable students including actor Gary Cooper and later served as Willson School, functioning as a junior high school after its time as the main high school. A new secondary school building was constructed about 1 mile away in 1958 to serve older students.
