Cape Decision Light
Cape Decision Light, Historic lighthouse and heritage site in Kuiu Island, Alaska
The lighthouse features a square tower constructed of concrete that rises 75 feet above Sumner Strait at the southern end of Kuiu Island.
Built in 1932 after Congress allocated $59,400 in 1929, the lighthouse became the first in Alaska to utilize electrical power for its operations.
The Cape Decision Lighthouse Society maintains this maritime structure, which houses the original third-order Fresnel lens now displayed at Petersburg's Clausen Museum.
The lighthouse emits white flashes every 5 seconds across 18 nautical miles, using solar power since 1996 to guide vessels through Chatham and Sumner Straits.
Fire incidents in 1989 affected multiple structures at the site, including the tram, dock, and boathouse, leading to significant renovations.
