Harcourt House, Art gallery in Edmonton, Canada
Harcourt House is an arts center with two exhibition galleries and approximately 40 studio spaces where local artists work and create on-site. The building integrates public gallery areas with private working studios for creatives at different career stages.
The building was completed in 1960 as a private residence before being converted to an arts center in 1988. The transformation responded to community efforts to strengthen local creative life after a major natural disaster.
The building actively supports emerging artists by providing them exhibition space and studio access where visitors can observe creative work in progress. The galleries sit alongside working artist studios, creating a natural connection between finished pieces and the people who made them.
The center sits near 112 Street with easy walk access and good transit connections in the neighborhood. Visitors can browse the galleries freely and often observe artists at work in their studios without needing to arrange appointments ahead of time.
The center runs art education programs that bring free classes and workshops to schools and community organizations across the city serving people with limited resources. This outreach work makes it a key venue for cultural access beyond the gallery walls.
