Christenson Family Centre for Sport and Wellness, Sports and wellness center at MacEwan University in Edmonton, Canada
The Christenson Family Centre for Sport and Wellness is a sports building on MacEwan University's campus that houses a swimming pool, fitness center, spin studio, mind/body studio, and gymnasium. These different facilities are combined under one roof to provide a complete range of fitness and training options.
The facility was built in 1991 and opened in May 1993, receiving its current name in September 2009 following a major donation from the Christenson Family. This naming honored the family's significant financial contribution to the building.
The facility serves as home ground for the MacEwan Griffins basketball and volleyball squads that compete in regional college athletics. You can watch these teams train and play here throughout the academic year.
The center operates extended hours on weekdays from 6:00 AM to 9:30 PM and shorter hours on weekends from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM. As a campus sports facility, it welcomes both university students and community members throughout the day.
The facility can accommodate about 2,000 people and formerly hosted the Edmonton Energy, a team from the International Basketball League, from 2008 to 2009. This chapter of local sports history made the building a venue for professional basketball games in the city.
