Epcor Tower, Postmodern skyscraper in downtown Edmonton, Canada
Epcor Tower is a postmodern skyscraper in downtown Edmonton with 28 floors above ground and underground levels constructed from steel and concrete. The building houses corporate office spaces and connects directly to the city's underground transit system.
The structure was completed in 2011 and became the first new office building in Edmonton after a 17-year gap in construction. Its completion signaled a major turning point in the city's development.
The tower's nickname, "Power Tower", comes from anchor tenant EPCOR Utilities, which leased 260,000 square feet for 1,100 employees in a 20-year deal with a 15-year renewal option. Tenants also include Capital Power, Ernst & Young, Intuit and BioWare, and the building was Edmonton's first new office tower in 17 years.
The building is equipped with efficient elevators for quick access to upper floors and connects conveniently to public transit. Visitors can access the underground LRT station directly from inside the building.
The two spires on the roof each carry four flagpoles, eight in all. Counting the spires, the tower stood as Edmonton's tallest building from 2011 until 2017. The crown is best seen from the north, where the CN Tower stands beside the Station Lands site.
