Saskatoon Arena, Indoor arena in downtown Saskatoon, Canada
Saskatoon Arena was an indoor sports facility in the downtown area with a concrete structure and artificial ice surfaces. The building typically held 3,300 seats but could expand to 7,000 for major events.
The facility opened in October 1937 and became the main entertainment venue for the city. It closed in 1988 and was demolished in 1989.
The venue served as a central gathering place where locals came for hockey matches and other entertainment events. It became woven into the social life of the community across its five decades of operation.
The building was designed for ice hockey competitions and public gatherings with easy downtown access. The interior layout provided sightlines for spectators throughout the different areas of the facility.
After demolition, the site was redeveloped into Clinkskill Manor, a retirement residence. A nearby street was named Bill Hunter Avenue in tribute to a local figure.
