Konawa Reservoir, body of water
Konawa Reservoir is a large body of water in Oklahoma covering about 1350 acres with a shoreline stretching over 20 miles. The water is clear and reaches depths up to 40 feet (12 meters) in some areas, with three boat ramps that provide easy access. Picnic areas, restrooms, and a swimming beach are situated around the lake for visitor use.
The reservoir was built by Oklahoma Gas and Electric Company and opened to the public for recreation in 1971. Shortly after, largemouth bass, striped bass, and forage fish were introduced to create a productive fishing environment.
The reservoir serves as a gathering place for the community where families and friends spend time together fishing, boating, and picnicking along the shore. Local anglers have developed traditions around seasonal visits and preferred fishing techniques that reflect a deep connection to the water.
The area is open to the public year-round with no entry fees required. There are no campgrounds at the site, but accommodations can be found in nearby towns, and local shops provide bait and fishing supplies. The roads leading to the lake are in good condition and easy to navigate.
The reservoir is known for producing large largemouth bass that grow exceptionally well in its waters. Anglers often share stories of notable catches and speak of the peace they find sitting by the water at dawn, watching the sunrise reflect across the surface.
