The campground was constructed between 1935 and 1938 by Civilian Conservation Corps crews under the guidance of National Park Service landscape architects.
The site exemplifies National Park Service rustic architecture through its stone checking station, comfort stations, and community house built during the 1930s.
The campground provides essential facilities including fire pits, picnic tables, restrooms, and large food storage lockers measuring 47 inches wide by 33 inches deep.
Located near Travertine Creek, the campground contains original stone-walled trash can enclosures dating back to the Civilian Conservation Corps construction period.
