El Reno High School, high school in Oklahoma, United States
El Reno High School is a secondary school in El Reno, Oklahoma, originally constructed in 1911 and now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The two and a half-story brick structure features Late Gothic Revival design with distinctive towers, stone detailing around windows and doorways, and a basement level that extends below grade.
The building was originally designed in 1911 by the architectural firm Layton and Smith, who also designed the Oklahoma State Capitol, establishing its place in the state's architectural heritage. A second section was added around 1925 to 1926 to accommodate growing enrollment, demonstrating how the school adapted to the town's development.
El Reno High School has been woven into the fabric of local life for over a century, serving as a gathering place where students and families participate in traditions like football games and school events. The building itself carries the memory of countless generations who studied within its walls and shaped the community's identity through their time there.
The school is located at the corner of South Choctaw and Watts Street and is easily accessible from public sidewalks for viewing its exterior features. The west side of the building faces the street directly, making it simple to observe the towers, stonework, and overall architectural character from ground level.
The school's Memorial Stadium opened more than 50 years ago and was rededicated in 2019 with a new monument honoring 44 local men who died in World War Two. The Jenks Simmons Field House hosted an NCAA basketball regional game in 1955, adding a small chapter to national tournament history.
