Foyil Filling Station
Foyil Filling Station, Historic filling station in Foyil, US
The Foyil Filling Station is located on South Andy Payne Boulevard and is a filling station built in 1925. The building preserves its original architectural features from that early period of automobile culture.
Thomas B. Millard founded this Texaco station in 1925 as part of the growing infrastructure for motorists. Floyd Shaffer later took over operations and ran it until the mid-1960s, when the station closed.
The station displays World War One items that operator Floyd Shaffer collected, reflecting his connection to military service and affairs. This personal collection reveals how the business was intertwined with the lives of those who ran it.
The building is on the National Register of Historic Places, which means its historical features are protected. Visitors should note that access today may be limited, so it is wise to check ahead about when and if visiting is possible.
Of five original filling stations in Foyil, this is the only one still standing today, highlighting its importance to local history. Additionally, entertainer Gene Autry visited the location during his time with the Frisco Railroad, adding another connection to the area's past.
