Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area is a 738-acre park on a hill above the Arkansas River in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Its summit rises 300 feet above the river and offers a view of the city. The park stretches between Interstate 44 and 71st Street, from US-75 to the river, with its main entrance at 67th Street and Elwood Avenue.
The area was established in 1978 when an initial parcel was purchased through combined funding from Tulsa County, federal sources, and private donations. It has undergone several expansions since its founding to reach its current size.
The park's name comes from the wild turkeys that once lived on the hill. The trails were added to the National Recreation Trail system in June 2016. The River Parks paved trail, 25 miles long, passes through the park near the Arkansas River and links it to other riverside parks in Tulsa.
The park has 30 marked trails from 0.25 to 3 miles plus over 5 miles of unmarked paths; the 25-mile paved River Parks trail runs near the river. The main entrance is at 67th Street and Elwood Avenue. The terrain is variable, so sturdy footwear is recommended.
Sandstone formations near the river contain markings whose origin is debated among visitors. Some see them as ancient signs while others attribute them to more recent human activity.
