Turkey Mountain Urban Wilderness Area

The 738-acre natural area features over 25 miles of trails along the Arkansas River, with elevation changes reaching 300 feet above water level.

The park originated in 1978 with 147 acres purchased through combined Tulsa County, federal, and private funds, expanding to 650 acres by 2023.

The National Park Service designated the Turkey Mountain trails as part of the National Recreation Trail system, recognizing their recreational importance.

Four marked trails between 0.8 and 5.7 miles accommodate different skill levels, with the Red Trail offering a paved loop for beginners.

Sandstone formations near the river contain disputed markings, which some interpret as ancient petroglyphs while others attribute to 1920s oil workers.
