Brufut Beach, Beach and settlement in West Coast Division, Gambia
Brufut Beach is a beach and settlement in West Coast Division that stretches from Joseph Pelican Beach Bar to the fishing village of Ghana Town. The waterfront features a wide expanse of sandy shore, while the hinterland rises with residential areas and resort developments along the coast.
The settlement began as a Mandinka farming community before expanding westward to include resort and residential areas such as Brufut Heights and Brufut Gardens. This growth transformed the place from a rural agricultural area into a coastal destination.
The beach displays traditional African fishing boats resting on the sand where local fishermen repair their nets and prepare for work. You can observe the everyday connection between the community and the sea and fishing activities.
Reaching the beach requires descending rust-colored cliffs via steep and narrow paths that can be slippery in wet conditions. Several beach establishments at the top provide parking areas, making it convenient to leave your vehicle while exploring the shoreline.
Near Coral Beach sits the Sanneh-Mentering pilgrimage site, marked by a large baobab tree and a simple shelter. This location draws visitors who seek spiritual connection and local spiritual practices.
