Batang Gadis National Park

The national park spans 1,080 square kilometers of mountainous terrain, reaching elevations between 300 and 2,145 meters above sea level.

The area received its initial protection in 1921 under Dutch colonial rule, later gaining national park status from the Indonesian government in 2004.

The Batang Gadis River, which flows through the park, plays a central role in the ecological balance of North Sumatra's indigenous wildlife.

Visitors need to obtain permits and arrange transportation in advance, as the park's remote location presents limited accessibility options.

The park houses 47 mammal species, including Sumatran tigers, Asian golden cats, and sun bears within its dense tropical forest ecosystem.
