Saint Aubin on the Hill, Anglican church in Saint Aubin, Jersey
Saint Aubin on the Hill is an Anglican church in Saint Aubin, Jersey, featuring a prominent stone tower and stained glass windows throughout its interior. The building is constructed mainly from Mont Mado granite, with carefully worked stone details visible across its exterior and interior.
The current church was built in 1889 after its predecessor was deemed unsafe. Stone from the original 1747 building, Jersey's first religious structure after the Reformation, was reused in this new construction.
The Lady Chapel holds the only Pre-Raphaelite stained glass window in Jersey, designed by Sir Edward Burne-Jones and created by William Morris. This artwork connects the local church to major English artists of the 1800s.
The church grounds are open to visitors throughout the year, offering space to explore at your own pace. Plan your visit outside of regular service times to view the interior and artwork without interruption.
The building incorporates reused stone from an earlier 1747 church, making it a rare example of architectural continuity across centuries. This connection between two eras is visible in the masonry itself and tells the story of two churches occupying the same site.
