National Museum

The National Museum is housed in a colonial-era building near Basseterre Bay and features exhibits about the island's history and development. The collection spans different periods and documents how life on the islands has changed over time.

The building was constructed in 1894 as a Treasury and served maritime commerce for many decades afterward. The conversion to a museum began in the late 1990s and was completed in 2002.

The museum displays collections from pre-Columbian times through the independence era, including traditional carnival costumes and exhibits about the sugar trade. These objects tell stories about daily life and major events that shaped the island community.

The museum is located on the second floor of the building and is easily accessible from street level. Visitors can take guided tours and join educational programs to learn about the island's heritage.

The building retains its original lighthouse dome that once guided ships through Basseterre Bay during the active trading period. This architectural feature remains visible today and serves as a reminder of the site's maritime past.
