Grotta di Lourdes, Religious grotto in Vatican Gardens, Vatican City.

The Grotta di Lourdes features a statue of the Virgin Mary within an artificial cave structure built to mirror the French original.

Construction of the grotto began in 1902 under architect Costantino Sneider and reached completion in 1905 with consecration by Pope Pius X.

The grotto maintains its function as a spiritual destination where the Pope conducts mass on May 31 to mark the end of Marian month.

Visitors can access the Grotta di Lourdes through organized Vatican Gardens tours, which require advance reservations and appropriate attire.

The altar within the grotto comes from the original Lourdes site in France, presented as a gift to Pope John XXIII in 1960.
