Großer Hundstod

The Großer Hundstod peak rises to an elevation of 2,594 meters, featuring limestone formations and steep rocky slopes along the border between Bavaria and Salzburg.

The mountain area became a protected zone in 1978 when authorities established the Berchtesgaden National Park to preserve its natural characteristics for future generations.

Local mountaineering clubs maintain several climbing routes to the summit, continuing traditions established by early alpine pioneers like Hermann von Barth in the 1800s.

The Ingolstädter Haus mountain refuge, located 1,211 meters south of the summit, provides accommodation and supplies for climbers during the summer season.

The mountain ranks as the fifth highest peak among 172 summits within Berchtesgaden National Park, offering views across both German and Austrian territories.
