Café Central, Historic coffee house in Innere Stadt, Austria

The café occupies the ground floor of Palais Ferstel, featuring Renaissance Revival architecture with high vaulted ceilings and marble columns.

Opening its doors in 1876, Café Central rapidly established itself as a meeting point for intellectuals, including Leon Trotsky and Sigmund Freud.

The establishment earned the nickname Chess School due to the numerous players who gathered there, while others engaged in Tapp Tarock games.

Located at Herrengasse 14 in Vienna's first district, the café operates from morning until evening, serving coffee, pastries, and traditional Austrian dishes.

Writer Peter Altenberg considered the café his primary residence, having his mail delivered directly to this establishment during the early 1900s.
