Mödling is a town with market rights in Lower Austria, situated at the boundary between the Vienna Woods and the Vienna Basin. The settlement spreads across a slope and is overlooked by the ruins of a medieval castle that rise above the town.
The settlement receives its first written mention in 907, and later developed around a castle that formed the basis for further growth. Its location between Vienna and southern regions helped establish its role as a market town.
