Dachstein-West, Ski resort in Salzburg, Austria
Dachstein-West is a ski resort with over 160 kilometers of slopes and 70 lift systems spanning three municipalities: Gosau, Russbach, and Annaberg. The terrain offers different difficulty levels and varying elevations for all winter sports enthusiasts.
This area grew from separate smaller ski zones that were later connected into one integrated resort system. This merger fundamentally changed how winter tourism developed across the region.
Mountain huts throughout this ski area serve local food specialties and host folk music events that reflect the traditions of the Austrian Alps. Visitors experience the warmth and customs that are central to mountain communities here.
The resort can be reached from three different base areas, and free shuttle buses connect them all throughout operating hours. The best time to visit is between December and April when most slopes have reliable snow coverage.
A special route lets skiers complete a 44-kilometer loop around the entire resort while experiencing different slopes and elevation changes. This circuit is a popular challenge for visitors wanting to explore the whole area in a single day.
