Zentralsparkassenfiliale Favoritenstraße

This building at Favoritenstraße 118 is a bank structure with a striking facade made of curved stainless steel plates and undulating forms squeezed between neighboring buildings. The structure presents itself as a compact form, with a deliberately designed surface that stands apart from typical street architecture.

The building was constructed between 1975 and 1979 according to designs by architect Günther Domenig, initially serving as a branch of Zentralsparkasse and Kommerzialbank Wien. The spaces were later repurposed for different occupants and now function as office areas for various businesses.

The ground floor and basement spaces house art exhibitions through the Kulturverband Favoriten, presenting contemporary works to district residents.

The building is located between Keplerplatz subway station and Viktor-Adler-Platz, making it easily accessible by public transport. Visitors can reach the site on foot during the day, as it sits in a well-traveled section of the street.

The architecture displays biomorphic forms resembling bones, tendons, and scales, transforming technical components into organic structures. This gives the bank building an unusual character that clearly distinguishes it from conventional financial institutions.
