Johannes-Evangelist-Kirche, Religious building in Favoriten, Vienna, Austria

Johannes-Evangelist-Kirche is a Neo-Renaissance three-aisled pillar basilica on Keplerplatz, built from 1872 to 1876 to plans by Hermann Bergmann. It is 52 metres long, its nave rises 18 metres, and its two towers with pyramidal roofs reach 50 metres each.

The first church built in Favoriten: the foundation stone was laid in 1872 and the building, designed by architect Hermann Bergmann, was consecrated in 1876 by Archbishop Johann Rudolf Kutschker. For about 25 years it remained the district's only church, its parish at times counting nearly 100,000 Catholics. Artillery and bombs damaged it heavily in 1944/1945, and it was renovated in the following years.

The church is dedicated to John the Evangelist, whose feast day on 27 December coincides with the birthday of Johannes Kepler, after whom the square is named. Since 1 June 2015 it has been the parish church of the newly formed parish Zum Göttlichen Wort, served by priests of the Steyler Missionaries, who also care for the Church of the Holy Family and the Trinity Church in Favoriten.
