Favoriten, Administrative district in Vienna, Austria
Favoriten is an administrative district in the south of Vienna that combines residential neighborhoods and green spaces. The area shows both new buildings and older structures from different periods.
The name comes from a baroque hunting palace that once stood here. The district officially became part of Vienna in 1874 and grew rapidly after the Second World War.
Turkish and Serbo-Croatian are often heard on the streets, reflecting the international character of the district. About one-third of residents come from other countries and bring their own traditions with them.
The S-Bahn connection and the main station provide direct access to the center and to other parts of the city. The area is easy to explore on foot or by public transport.
The district administration building is one of the few Viennese government structures made of red brick and was built between 1881 and 1882. This construction style was rather uncommon in the city at that time.
