Arbeiterheim Favoriten is a large residential building occupying an entire block on Laxenburger Straße, housing a banquet hall and meeting spaces alongside living quarters spread across multiple floors. The structure combines communal spaces with residential functions in a single architectural ensemble.
The building was constructed between 1901 and 1902 as Vienna's first workers' home, designed by Hubert Gessner, a student of Otto Wagner. This project marked the beginning of a new social housing model for the working class in the city.
The building housed the first cinema in Favoriten district, known as Amalien-Kino, which operated from 1927 until 1982, showing films and operettas.
Public access to the interior is limited, as the building currently functions mainly as residential accommodation. Visitors should check in advance whether guided tours or interior visits are available.
