Burg Alt-Leonroth

Burg Alt-Leonroth is a rectangular castle site with a ring wall featuring three arrow slits for crossbows. The area contains foundations of multiple ancient buildings and is surrounded by steep slopes and the gorge below.

The castle was built at the end of the 12th century by the Krems family to protect the road crossing the Teigitschklamm gorge toward Pack. It later lost importance and declined into the ruins visible today.

The ruins show medieval building methods through their preserved ring walls positioned above the Teigitschklamm gorge. Visitors can understand from the structures how the castle once functioned and what role it played in the region.

The ruins are accessible through marked paths near Lippenjakl farm, though careful footing is needed due to steep terrain. Wear sturdy shoes and allow time for exploration, as the ground is uneven and filled with old structures.

Excavations uncovered pottery from the 13th to 16th centuries and six medieval projectile points within the castle grounds. These discoveries offer rare glimpses into daily life and conflicts that happened at this location.
