Jörgerbad

Jörgerbad is an indoor swimming pool in Hernals featuring distinctive Art Nouveau architecture from the early 1900s. The structure displays rusty orange and sky blue tiles throughout, while an oval glass roof crowns the main pool area and allows daylight to flood the interior.

The facility opened in 1914 as the Kaiser Franz Joseph Bath, a name reflecting the Austrian ruler at the time. Its construction marked an important moment when Vienna invested in modern public swimming infrastructure to serve the growing city.

The facility broke ground in Vienna by allowing families to swim together, ending the separation of men and women that was common in public baths at the time. This openness made it a gathering place where different groups could share the same water.

The pool is located on Jörgerstraße in Vienna's 17th district and is easily accessible by public transportation. Visitors should bring comfortable clothing and a towel, as the facility operates throughout the week with extended evening hours.

A water slide extends partially outside the building, creating an unusual sight where swimmers can slide into the open air before returning indoors. This modern feature stands out against the historic architecture surrounding it.
