Matschwitz, Mountain lodge in Montafon, Austria

Matschwitz is a hamlet of around 20 houses at about 1520 metres in the Golm ski and hiking area above Tschagguns, in the Montafon. Its houses are mostly used as holiday homes; this form of settlement is called a Maisäß in Montafon. It is reached on foot by a forest path from Latschau in about 45 minutes, or with the Golmerbahn.

The lodge began as a basic mountain shelter but underwent major modernization in 2013 with expanded accommodations and facilities. This transformation made it a larger lodging option with improved infrastructure for groups.

Matschwitz is a Maisäß, a seasonal settlement type found in Montafon: around 20 houses, mostly used today as holiday homes rather than working farm buildings. The name also appears in Swiss usage as "Matschwyz". Visitors pass the houses on the forest path from Latschau or on the way up with the Golmerbahn.

The lodge sits conveniently for skiers and hikers, accessible via the Montafon valley road with good passage even in winter conditions. Visitors should note that the lodge focuses mainly on winter operation, though summer stays are possible by arrangement.

A special feature is the Golmis Research Path with around 21 stations where children and families can explore mountain ecology through interactive learning. This path offers an engaging way to discover more about the surrounding natural environment during a visit.
