Wildenkogel, Alpine summit in Matrei in Osttirol, Austria
Wildenkogel rises to 3021 meters in the Venediger Group with a mix of rocky sections and steep slopes throughout. The routes cross exposed ridges and technically demanding passages that require experience and careful movement.
Early climbers explored this peak in the 19th century and opened routes that generations of mountaineers continue to follow. These pioneer expeditions created the foundation for the established climbing paths in the Eastern Alps.
A wooden cross stands at the summit, maintained by local climbers as part of alpine tradition in East Tyrol. This marker reflects how mountaineers have long honored their achievements in these peaks.
Matrei in Osttirol offers the main access point, with marked trails leading toward the summit. Climbers need technical gear such as ropes and carabiners, and should be comfortable with heights and in good physical condition.
On clear days, visitors can see approximately 30 other peaks higher than 3000 meters from this summit. This vista makes it a rare vantage point where you can observe so many alpine heights in a single view.
