Auge Gottes, Mountain stream pool in Matrei in Osttirol, Austria
Auge Gottes is a mountain stream pool located at about 2167 meters elevation in the Hohe Tauern National Park, positioned beside the Innergschlöss Glacier Trail. The water is fed by meltwater from nearby glaciers and reflects the surrounding alpine peaks.
This alpine pool was carved by glacial erosion over countless years and has remained a feature of established hiking routes in East Tyrol. The area has served as a destination for climbers and hikers for generations.
Local residents maintain the surrounding trails, preserving access to this natural water feature within the protected national park boundaries.
The pool is accessible via a hiking trail of about 13.4 kilometers from Innergschlöss, taking roughly three hours on foot. The path is well marked, but the elevation and alpine terrain require basic fitness and appropriate gear.
The pool contains a small island dotted with cotton grass that creates an unexpected focal point when reflected in the clear water. This tiny landform adds a distinctive character that many visitors discover only upon closer inspection.
