Lusthaus

The Lusthaus stands at the southeastern end of Prater Avenue and displays Baroque design elements with balanced architectural proportions. The restored building now functions as a restaurant and coffeehouse where visitors can dine and linger in a green setting.

The building was constructed in 1538 as a hunting lodge under the name Casa Verde and later underwent major transformation. After the Prater opened to the public, significant renovations took place between 1781 and 1783 to adapt it as a gathering space.

The building served as a favored spot for celebrations and gatherings of Viennese from different walks of life. You can still sense how it drew people who wanted to spend time together.

The location is easily accessible by public transportation and sits within a park offering plenty of space for walking. Visitors should note that the best accessibility comes from the main pathways, especially during wet weather.

The building stood near the Danube Canal for a long time until the waterway was redirected in 1834, completely changing the surrounding landscape. This shift significantly affected the relationship between the structure and its natural setting.
