Villa Wagner II

Villa Wagner II is a protected residential building in Penzing with geometric patterns on its facade, blue ornaments, and a flat roof with an extended cornice at Hüttelbergstraße 28. The structure displays the characteristic features of Secessionist architecture with clean lines and functional elements.

Otto Wagner designed and built this house between 1912 and 1913 after selling his first residence. He incorporated sketches from 1905 into the final design, showing how long the ideas for this project had been developing.

The entrance portal features a glass mosaic by Koloman Moser depicting Greek mythology scenes, reflecting the late Secessionist artistic movement. This artwork shapes the first impression upon entering and shows how Wagner collaborated with leading artists of his era.

The house sits near the Vienna Woods, providing direct access to nature while maintaining proximity to the urban amenities of Vienna's 14th district. The location offers a good balance between green spaces and urban infrastructure.

A three-meter-high glass cabinet that was originally part of the interior furnishings is now displayed at Vienna's Museum of Applied Arts. This piece shows how Wagner's design principles extended throughout all areas of the home.
