Wildkarspitze, Mountain summit in Zillertal Alps, Austria.
Wildkarspitze is a 3073 meter peak in the Zillertal Alps with rocky terrain dominating its western side. Glaciated slopes on the north and east faces add complexity to the climb.
The first recorded ascent took place in 1892 when Karl Povinelli and Franz Hofer reached the summit, then known as Wildkarkopf. The peak later gained its current name as climbing activity increased in the region.
The peak serves as a meeting point for climbers seeking traditional alpine routes in the Gerloskamm ridge. Visitors encounter mountaineers from across Europe who gather here to test themselves on challenging terrain.
Climbers should start from Zittauer Hut at 2330 meters elevation and be prepared for grade II technical climbing on rock and ice. The route demands solid alpine skills and previous glacier experience.
Three major glaciers encircle the peak: Wildkarkees to the north, Waldbergkarkees to the northeast, and Weißkarkees to the southeast. This arrangement makes it one of the few summits in the Alps surrounded by ice fields on multiple sides.
