Ischler Hütte, Mountain hut in Altaussee, Austria
Ischler Hütte is a mountain lodge located at 1368 meters (4488 feet) in Styria that can accommodate up to 50 guests with various room options. The building sits in the heart of the Tote Gebirge and serves as an important resting point between Bad Ischl and Altaussee.
The lodge became established as a stopover point for mountaineers exploring the Tote Gebirge region. Over decades, it grew into an important waystation on hiking routes that connect both sides of the mountain range.
The hut serves as a gathering place where hikers and mountaineers enjoy regional Austrian food and share their experiences. It represents a long tradition of hospitality in the mountains, where the kitchen emphasizes local ingredients and traditional recipes.
The route to the lodge follows hiking paths from Altaussee or from Bad Ischl through the Ischler Rettenbach, with no vehicle access available. Visitors should bring sturdy footwear and reasonable fitness, as the terrain is hilly and sometimes steep.
From the lodge, visitors can make a direct ascent to Schönberg, whose summit stands at 2093 meters (6867 feet) and is reachable within a few hours. This climb is a popular extension for guests who want to extend their stay here.
