Kleiner Gilfert, Mountain summit in Tuxer Alps, Austria
Kleiner Gilfert is a summit in the Tuxer Alps that rises to 2388 meters and offers an extensive network of walking routes. The area covers roughly 13 kilometers of trails through alpine landscape.
The mountain remained relatively unknown until 2008, when a new summit cross was installed that drew the attention of hikers. The cross was given special inscriptions that have shaped this location as a spiritual place since then.
The summit cross displays bronze inscriptions featuring thoughts from medieval theologian Eckardt translated into different languages and traditions. Three granite benches invite visitors to reflect on these words in the mountains.
The climb from the Weidener Hütte parking area takes roughly three hours and passes through different elevation zones with steep sections. The route requires a head for heights and solid footwear, especially in wet conditions.
The summit features nine religious symbols displayed on the granite benches, representing different faiths to visitors. This blend of a spiritual place and alpine experience creates a space for meeting and reflection at high elevation.
