Hoher Zinken, Mountain summit in Salzkammergut, Austria

Hoher Zinken is a summit of the Osterhorngruppe in the Salzkammergut mountains, reaching 1,764 m above sea level, 16 m higher than the neighbouring Osterhorn. Its peak lies entirely in the municipality of Abtenau, between St. Gilgen and Strobl on the Wolfgangsee to the north and the Lammertal to the south. The summit is rocky but tree-covered, and the northwest flank holds the Natura 2000 area Zinkenbach-Karlgraben at the source of the Königsbach.

The Hohe Zinken lies entirely in the municipality of Abtenau, with the Strobl boundary running just below the summit along a hunter's path. The mountain is climbed from the Leit'n Alm near Hintersee-Lämmerbach or the Abtenauer Genneralm, passing the Posch'n Hütte and the Holzeck (1,603 m) before reaching the summit via trail no. 840 in about three hours. It is also a popular, rather easy ski tour from Lämmerbach over the Genneralm.

The name Zinken refers to the pointed, rocky summit, which is still wooded; the neighbouring Osterhorn, 16 m lower at 1,748 m, gives the whole Osterhorn group its name. The peak lies entirely in the municipality of Abtenau, while the Strobl boundary runs just below it along a hunters' path.

A common route starts at the Leit'n Alm near Hintersee-Lämmerbach or the Abtenauer Genneralm, passes the Posch'n Hütte and the Holzeck (1,603 m), then follows trail no. 840 through a saddle to the summit in about three hours. The peak lies entirely in Abtenau municipality, with the Strobl border just below along a hunter's path. The Hohe Zinken is also a popular, fairly easy ski tour from Lämmerbach via the Genneralm.

On clear days, the Dachstein massif and several peaks of the Osterhorn group are distinctly visible from the summit. This view makes the climb especially rewarding, as visitors can survey multiple recognized mountain systems of the region from a single vantage point.
