Postalmklamm, Via ferrata in Strobl, Austria
Postalmklamm is a via ferrata that cuts through a narrow gorge following the Rußbach river with steep rock walls on both sides. Steel cables, rungs, and suspension bridges guide climbers along the route while water rushes below and stone towers above.
This route opened in 2006 as a new climbing destination in the region. A supplementary section called Wieslerfall was later added to provide additional climbing options for visitors.
Local climbing traditions bring together participants from numerous regions for outdoor activities, training sessions, and competitions throughout each climbing season.
You need climbing experience and a good head for heights since you'll be securing yourself with steel cables and traversing exposed sections. Wear sturdy shoes with strong grip, and allow plenty of time for breaks as the physical demands are considerable.
The route concludes at Schnitzhofalm, where you can watch traditional Alpine cheese being made by hand in the mountain hut. This blend of climbing adventure and pastoral tradition gives the place a distinctive character that many visitors find unexpected.
