Prandtauerkirche, Roman Catholic church in St. Pölten, Austria
The Prandtauerkirche is a baroque church in St. Pölten with a distinctive curved eastern facade. The building dominates Rathausplatz and displays typical baroque design with ornate facade details.
A princess from the Montecuccoli family commissioned the building in 1707 along with a Carmelite monastery. Construction took over a decade to finish in the 1720s.
The church is named after Jakob Prandtauer, the architect who designed it. Walking inside, you see baroque altars and 18th-century statues that reveal how this style shaped religious spaces in the region.
The building sits centrally on Rathausplatz and is easy to reach on foot. Visitors should know that services happen at set times and the interior may not be open for visits during those hours.
A chapel dedicated to Blessed Emperor Karl I was added in 2019 with Art Deco design elements. This newer addition shows how the historic building continues to serve new forms of devotion.
