Ernst-Seidel-Talherberge, Mountain hut in Gosau, Austria.
Ernst-Seidel-Talherberge is a mountain hut situated in the Gosau valley at 760 meters elevation, accommodating around 13 people in various room configurations. The hut offers dormitory spaces, double rooms, and shared kitchen and dining areas where guests can prepare their own meals.
Established in 1833, this mountain lodge has long served as a stopping point for hikers and mountaineers exploring the Salzkammergut region. For nearly two centuries, it has provided shelter for travelers venturing through the alpine landscape.
The hut maintains traditional Alpine hospitality principles, requiring guests to bring their own bedding while offering communal cooking and dining spaces.
Visitors should bring their own bedding, as the hut is simply furnished and does not provide linens. Access is via the B166 road from Hallstatt or by train to Steeg station, with keys available from the Alpine Club office in Linz beforehand.
The hut features a hobby room with table tennis equipment where guests can unwind after days spent on mountain trails. Hot showers are available through coin-operated dispensers, reflecting a practical approach to resource management in this remote setting.
