Gosau

Located at 767 meters elevation, Gosau stretches across 113 square kilometers of terrain at the foot of the Dachstein mountain range.

The valley surrounding Gosau was first settled in the 13th century by monks from St Peter's Abbey in Salzburg for timber production.

With 71 percent of its population following Lutheran traditions, Gosau represents one of the few Protestant communities in predominantly Catholic Austria.

The municipality serves as a starting point for outdoor activities, with access to skiing slopes in winter and mountain trails in summer.

At the southern end of Gosau, the Vorderer Gosausee lake reflects the Dachstein mountains in its clear waters.
