Tigranakert of Artsakh, Archaeological site in Aghdam District, Azerbaijan.
The excavation area spans 50 hectares, featuring ancient fortress walls, residential quarters, and a defensive system near the Khachinchay River.
King Tigranes established this settlement between 95-55 BC as a strategic point to control trade routes and maintain military presence.
The site contains early Christian burials, Armenian and Greek inscriptions from the 5th to 7th centuries, indicating religious and linguistic diversity.
Archaeological research operations started in 2005, leading to the opening of an on-site museum in 2010 near Shahbulag Castle.
The excavations revealed Hellenistic-style towers, multicolored pottery, and coins from Parthian monarchs, demonstrating international trade connections.
