Balakan District

The district spans 920 square kilometers at the foothills of the Greater Caucasus Mountains, featuring multiple rivers and diverse natural landscapes.

The region became part of Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic in 1930, following territorial disputes between Azerbaijan and Georgia after World War I.

The district population includes Azerbaijani, Avar, and Ingiloy communities, each maintaining specific traditions in music, dance, and local handicrafts.

Agriculture forms the primary economic sector, with 123 farming entities producing tobacco, fruits, and operating livestock activities across the territory.

The district celebrates an annual Hazelnut Festival since 2017, showcasing local agricultural products through exhibitions and community gatherings.
