Սուրբ Գևորգ եկեղեցի

Saint George Church in Sighnaghi is an Armenian house of worship featuring a central dome supported by four pillars that showcase traditional Armenian architectural style. The building has two separate entrances on the west and north sides, with two-story chapels positioned beside the main altar.

The church was established in 1251 and contains multiple layers of wall paintings, with the oldest frescoes dating from the 14th century. Over time, the building was continuously decorated with religious images by successive artists.

The interior walls display religious artwork showing scenes from sacred texts, created by different artists across several centuries. These painted images shape the visual experience of anyone who walks through the space.

The building is easily accessible from different sides, with entrances reachable from various directions. Visitors should allow time to properly view the wall paintings and altar area when exploring the interior.

The building once served as a center for preserving manuscripts, with a dedicated room where important religious texts were produced during medieval times. This role as a source of knowledge made it an important place for passing down religious learning.
