Akura church, Medieval Orthodox monastery in Kakheti region, Georgia

The Akura church features a rectangular structure measuring 17.3 by 12.8 meters, built with cobblestone and brick materials, including a horseshoe-shaped central apse.

The monastery, dating to the 9th century, was established by monk Hilarion the Georgian around 855 as a nunnery for his mother and sister.

The interior western wall contains fragments of 14th and 15th-century frescoes, while the facades display medieval Georgian asomtavruli script inscriptions.

Located 1.5 kilometers southwest of Akura village on the Vantiskhevi river bank, the church remains an active Georgian Orthodox religious site.

The church received renovations in 1597 by King Alexander II of Kakheti to mark his sister Ketevan's retirement to the Akura convent.
