Artsivi Gorge Natural Monument, Natural monument in Dedoplistsqaro Municipality, Georgia.
Artsivi Gorge (Eagle Gorge) is a natural monument in eastern Georgia featuring a limestone canyon surrounded by dense forest. The site contains several hiking trails that lead through the valley and offer views of the steep rocky walls.
The gorge contains the remains of Khornabuji fortress, built in the 5th century within the canyon walls. This ancient structure demonstrates the site's strategic importance as a defensive location in antiquity.
The protected area serves as a breeding ground for many bird species, including black storks and Griffon vultures that nest in the rocky cliffs. Visitors can observe these birds going about their daily activities, especially during early morning hours.
Visitors can reach the gorge via a walking trail of about one kilometer from Dedoplistsqaro, with additional paths leading to the fortress ruins. The area is best explored on foot, and comfortable hiking shoes are recommended.
The site harbors several plant species found nowhere else in Georgia, including Oriental thuja and specific varieties of Campanula kachetica. These rare plants make it particularly valuable for botanists and nature enthusiasts.
