Ashabi-Kahf in Nakhchivan

Ashabi-Kahf is a natural cave formation located in the Zangezur mountain range at approximately 1665 meters elevation, featuring several chambers with high ceilings. A modern mosque built in 1998 stands near the cave to serve visitors seeking a space for prayer.

According to tradition, young men sought refuge in this cave from persecution by Roman Emperor Diocletian in ancient times. This account became central to the religious importance of the site in Islamic faith.

The site holds deep meaning for Muslim visitors who come to reflect on the story told in Surah Al-Kahf, one of Islam's most important chapters. People gather here to connect with this religious narrative that has shaped their faith for centuries.

The cave is accessible via a 13-kilometer paved road that makes reaching the site relatively straightforward. Visitors should prepare for the mountain setting and wear suitable footwear for walking on uneven terrain.
