Khanegah tomb

Khanegah tomb is a mausoleum built from fired clay bricks that follows Nakhchivan architectural traditions in its form and decoration. The bricks are crafted to specific dimensions and adorned with detailed patterns in the curved sections where the walls meet the roof.

The tomb was built in the 13th century and later expanded with an additional mausoleum through the 15th century. This growth shows how construction methods and design approaches changed over those 200 years.

The tomb displays characteristic features of Nakhchivan architecture through its geometric patterns and crafted details visible across the structure. This building style shapes how many religious buildings in the region look and reflects local construction traditions.

The mausoleum sits on the banks of the Alinjachay River in Julfa District and is somewhat remote from major roads. Visitors should come prepared for basic site conditions and wear suitable footwear for the terrain.

Azerbaijan's postal service featured the mausoleum on a postage stamp in 2008, recognizing its architectural importance to the country. This honor reflects how valued the structure is as part of the nation's heritage.
