Konjic

Konjic is a town that stretches across a valley on both sides of the Neretva River and is surrounded by mountains. The place sits at about 379 meters above sea level and connects different landscapes through its central river passage.

The settlement goes back several millennia, with the first written records from 1382 coming from the Republic of Ragusa. The place played an important role as a traffic point between different regions during the medieval period.

The Stara Cuprija bridge is the town's landmark and shows the building style from Ottoman times. The six stone arches over the river shape the character of the place and remind visitors of the different cultures that once lived here.

The town functions as a transportation hub between Sarajevo and Mostar with regular train and bus connections through the Neretva valley. Visitors can reach the bridge easily on foot and view the river from different vantage points.

Beneath the town lies a former underground bunker system built during the Cold War that now functions as an art venue. The structure shows a different side of modern history and offers an unexpected contrast to the historic bridge.
