Jajce Barracks, Military barracks in Stari Grad, Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Jajce Barracks is an abandoned military complex in Sarajevo's old town, located near Pod Bedemom street next to the White Bastion. The building features a grand design with characteristic architectural elements from the Austro-Hungarian period throughout its structure.
The structure was built in 1914 for the Austro-Hungarian Army and received its name in 1915 when an Austrian military hospital from Jajce relocated to this site. This renaming marked the changing use of the complex during the early 1900s.
The barracks show how Ottoman defensive traditions mixed with Austro-Hungarian building styles, visible in the facade and structural details throughout the complex. Visitors can still observe this architectural blend in the empty rooms and corridors today.
The site is within walking distance of Yellow Fortress and Kovači, with several hiking paths and local transport routes nearby. Since the grounds are abandoned, visitors should expect uneven terrain and some damaged structures.
The building retains its original architectural elements despite being completely abandoned, serving as a physical record of Sarajevo's military past. Many visitors notice how the structures still hold their original elegance even through decay.
