Stari Grad

Stari Grad is a municipality in Sarajevo with a densely populated central core featuring older residential areas and modern structures mixed throughout. The administrative center serves the local population with essential public services from its offices in this area.

The municipality was restructured during reconstruction following the 1990s conflicts and became the foundation for local governance. Over the following decades it was continuously modernized to meet the needs of the growing population.

The old town district gets its name from the historic houses and narrow streets that shape its character. Residents use the central squares daily, and the architecture reflects centuries of community and shared life.

The district is easily walkable and well connected by public transportation, making it convenient for getting around. Visitors find shops, cafes, and restaurants along the central streets where daily life unfolds.

The name refers to the old town, one of Sarajevo's oldest settled areas that remains the city's heart today. Many visitors overlook how the streets and squares here are places where the city's history shows itself in daily life.
